A couple of weeks ago, Ashley gave us a family home evening lesson about the value of work and how it takes everyone in the family to make the house function.
We talked about how a family will be strengthened by working together. Also how we as individual members can gain a self-esteem by realizing that we can make a worthwhile contribution to the family.
I helped in reminding that I know we are all busy but that I can't do it all alone. We talked about how we all need to pitch in and help out more. We then discussed what life would be like if no one did any work around our home--what would our house look like. Ashley then had everyone list their favorite chore and their worst chore and how we could help each other with the worst chore. Here is everyone's answers:
Kylie:
Favorite: Vacuum the stairs
Worst: Kitchen and cleaning the bathroom sink
Ashley:
Favorite: Making my bed
Worst: Kitchen
Courtney:
Favorite: Making my bed
Worst: Cleaning the bathroom and Kitchen
Tiffani:
Favorite: Vacuuming the stairs
Worst: Unloading the dishwasher and cleaning the bathroom
Lisa:
Favorite: Cleaning the bathrooms ( Cant stand a messy bathroom)and vacuuming (it just makes your house feel clean)
Worst: Laundry (it is just never ending)
Mike:
Favorite: Fixing things that are broken
Worst: Cleaning windows
We realized that not many of us liked cleaning the kitchen but that pretty much everyone liked to vacuum the stairs. I think its because it is the fastest job in the house to do.
When then talked about trying to have fun when we do chores. Like when cleaning the kitchen or the bathroom (which seemed to be the ones that no one likes to do) we could sing songs, dance (which is my favorite thing to do), listen to music and laugh.
And the end she read this quote:
"Thank God every morning when you get up that you have something to do that day which must be done, whether you like it or not. Being forced to work, and forced to do you best will breed in you temperance and self-control, diligence and strength of will, cheerfulness and content, and a hundred virtues which the idle will never know." Charles Kingsley
I loved this lesson on how we can work together as a family and keep our home a clean place. And-- our home has been a lot less cluttered!
Let us know what your favorite and worst chore is to do?

Great post!!! I'll have to use that lesson in my house.
My favorite job: Any job that I can finish before interrupted by something else. Accomplishment is the best feeling.
My least favorite job: Funny thing, the stairs. We have a dog which makes the stairs a very long job.
Favorite: Vacuuming and cleaning the laundry.
Worst: Folding and putting away the laundry.
