Mike and his New Toy

Mike got a new radio, this has become Mike's new hobby/ward calling is the ham radio.
He got this new radio for his birthday and has been busy learning all that it has to offer. Kylie says to her dad," You must really like your new toy." Mike, "Yes, I do why?" Kylie, "Cause your always playing with it."

I just thought this a little humorous because Mike has been for days walking around the house with his new radio and listening to it and trying new things, he even tried to bring it into our bedroom one night because he wanted to know how long the battery would last. That is when I had to put my foot down.

I can see why Kylie would ask her dad if likes his new toy because in her eyes she loves playing with her new toys and wants to play with them all the time. That is what she saw with her dad and his new radio. How observant our children really are of the things that are going on around them and what we are doing.

We Got Snow!!!!

Who would of thought that in March, that you could get snow in Texas? Now I can see snow in November, December, January, and even an ice storm in February, but come on, snow in March, with the first day of Spring only being few weeks away. That's one of the things that I really like about living in Texas, you really can have nice weather in March. I must admit that it looks so beautiful and it does makes me a little homesick.
This was our first snow storm it started Monday night, March 3, this is what we woke up to. Everyone was hoping that school would be cancelled but it wasn't, so the girls were a little sad and hoping the snow would still be there when they get home from school.
Kylie was so happy that we got snow, can you tell that she had been diagnosed for influenza B the day before? The doctor said she need to stay home for a few days. I think the snow must of cured her. She was doing great by Tues. afternoon.
Ashley and Kylie hoping that the snow won't melt for a little while, it was pretty much gone when Ashley got home from school.

Then we get hit with a second Snow Storm that comes in on Thursday afternoon, March 6, 2008. Everyone was going to pick up their children out of school and get them home, the weather people were predicting about 3-6 inches. I guess everyone just wanted to get their kids and get home and not have to go out in our little blizzard.

Look at those big flakes falling. Can you see them?

Ashley making a snow angle, she is one of my little angels.

Look at our snow storm, it was a good one.

I know you can't see the numbers very well but this was towards the end of the storm at it was measuring 4and 1/2 inches. By the time it was all done, we were at about 5 inches of snow.

Courtney wanting to get in on the snow pictures even though she wouldn't go out and play in it.

My Birthday

It was my birthday March 1 and I turned the big 40. When my sister called to wish me Happy Birthday she asked if I felt older? I said "Don't they say you only feel as old as you act. So I feel like I am twenty-one. Okay maybe I really feel like I am at least thirty." I feel that turning forty is just reaching another milestone in life. The goal I am working on now is to be done with school before I am 45. I think I can do it.

Here are some fun quotes about turning 40:

Forty isn't old! Just ask anyone who has already reached that age.

Some of us age like fine wine, Others don't get older they get sharper, The idea is to think of your 40th birthday, as the beginning of the rest of your life.

Forty is the real Awkward Age, you are old enough to realize that you would look silly doing the things you are still young enough to wish you could do.
Robert M. Yoder

When you are forty half of you belongs to the past.
Jean Anouilh

Age is mind over matter, as long as you don't mind it don't matter.
Muhammad Ali

To me, old age is always fifteen years older than I am
Bernard Baruch

At twenty we worry about what others think of us; at forty we don't care about what others think of us; at sixty we discover they haven't been thinking about us at all. (I wonder if I will think that when I turn sixty?)

You come to the conclusion that your worst enemy is gravity

A 'late night' now ends at 11 pm

You finally got your head together, now your body is falling apart.

Your mind makes contracts your body can't keep

Ice Skating

Kylie's friend Maddy wanted to do try an ice skating class. Her mom, found a class that was one night a week for three weeks. It's called the mini class. Kylie loves to try new things and was excited to go and try it out. Ashley asked if she could try it too, and one of Ashley's friend, Megan, decided to try the class too. They had a fun time but Kylie decided that tennis is more her thing. Her exact words were, " I think that I need to concentrate more on tennis."

Prom

Our Stake does a Prom for the Laurels and Priest. A few of Tiffani's friends that are turning 16 around the same time as her, got permission from their Bishop to go to the Prom. So their Young Women Leader, who is a good friend called and asked if we would like to see if Tiffani could get permission from our Bishop so that she could go with her friends. Our Bishop said that Tiffani could go to the Prom with her friends. She was so excited and surprised. She hadn't even asked if she could go, knowing that her friends had gotten permission, she had just figured that she would have to wait till next year. So I was so glad that my friend, had thought to ask if Tiffani could go with their ward because I know that Tiffani would have been sad that her friends had been able to go and she didn't.
Right before prom, we got a little worried that Tiffani might not be able to make it because on Tuesday she started not feeling very well, by Wednesday she had started running a fever. I took her to the Doctor and she had the Flu, type A. So they put her on Tamflu and she was feeling much better to go to the dance on Friday.

So here is Tiffani with her friends. There were 13 of them, they had dinner at Maria's House(YWP) and we took pictures of them there. They are such a great group of kids and a lot fun.

The girls in the bathroom getting ready.
Getting read to leave in the limo that they rented. From here they went to the dance then the went to a bounce house that they Stake had rented for the kids to go to after wards. Then they went to one of the kids house for games, movies and breakfast.
Inside the Limo. What fun memories.

Valentine's Day

I love this day!!! Mike is a wonderful husband and a thoughtful father. He bought a dozen red roses and he gave one to each of the girls and the other 8 were mine. He takes such good care of us and wants all of us to feel special. I got the girls the cutest socks for Valentine's Day. Here are Ashley and Kylie at their class parties. I wish I would have taken a picture of the flowers they were so pretty but I forgot.

This is Randy, he is in Kylie's class and he calls Kylie "the boss" because she always knows what to do and he likes her to help him.
Ashley showing Kylie that she won a packet of coupons for the rest of the school year. Like: Sitting at the teachers desk, Getting to take off one page of the Homework packet.

Scripture Treasure Hunt

I found this great idea for helping to motivate the kids in reading their scriptures. It is on the Primary Group Page, if your interested I can give you the site to find it. Anyways the girls have a map for each section of the Book of Mormon when they finish a chapter they color a space on the map. When they finish the whole section like 1 Nephi they get a clue and a treasure box. Then when the finish 2 Nephi they get a jewel with a letter on it to put in their treasure box. So at the end they will have to figure out the special word that they are scripture hunting for with all the letters on the jewels.
These are our treasure boxes we made. The girls are doing such a great job in reading their scriptures. Ashley or Courtney will take time to read with Kylie if I am a little busy with studying. This has been a great success with our family. We are still working on our Morning Scripture Studying as Tiffani as to be to Seminary at 6:30 some days are better then others as Ashley and Kylie are the alarm clocks. They are the best in getting up and making sure everyone is ready to read, if they don't get up we just don't seem to make it. I am so proud of my children and the choices that they make and how they try to do the right things. I feel very blessed to have such 4 beautiful and happy girls. (Tiffani, left before I could get her in the picture.)
